This is one of those places that feels stuck in time. They carry candy you’ve never heard of, the kind of stuff that appears like it could’ve been something your grandparent’s enjoyed as a kid. Black and white checkered linoleum floors sport the scars from years of traffic. Every surface but the floor is painted a turquoise, something that you just don’t see anymore, like a name once popular in a previous generation that has since gone out of style.

I was planning on taking my mother to Shelburne Farms on Mother’s Day. Unfortunately, Lake Champlain is so swollen, the main access road has disappeared completely under water.
